Mike Smith LIVE- Bryan High School

Here is Mike's assembly... Pretty much just stuck a camera on a tripod and this is what we got. Mike had quite the filming entourage that day, as he also had another local producer, Jordan Riggs, there to get some B Roll for another project he's working on. If you've got an extra 28 minutes... check this out in it's entirety as he has a great message for today's youth!

Auditorium Time Lapse

A good friend of mine, Mike Smith, is a terrific public speaker and role model for the youth of today. He asked me to come film a presentation he was giving at Bryan School. I had my D7000 with me, so I thought it would be cool to grab a quick time lapse of the kids filling up the auditorium beforehand. Needless to say, Mike killed the presentation and I will have it up here shortly.

Camera gear porn

If you are a gear head like me, you will appreciate this video I found while browsing through Nikonrumors.com. Still no real dates on the D700 replacement I have been waiting for... but at least I found this.

Congrats Mandi & Ross

My niece is getting married this weekend and she had asked if I could do their wedding slideshow... basically put a bunch of their pictures together- add Ken Burns effect and sync to music. Pretty simple right??? Here is what I came up with- a 39 minute short movie!!!. It was a really fun project, even though it was alot more work than I had originally anticipated. Congrats to Mandi & Ross!!!

Wow, I am getting old!

Skate The State- help support a great effort

This is a blog post from a good friend of mine, Mike Smith. This guy has an amazing heart and is once again doing something completely off the wall to help raise money for his dream of having a safe place for Nebraska's youth to skate...

Why donate….why care?
If you want something you’ve never had before, you have to be willing to do something you’ve never done.

$50,000….430 miles, on a skateboard.

For the past decade I have worked with youth in Nebraska at every level, from the homeless to the wealthy, from the athletes to the artistic. There has been one common theme through out….our kids feel like “there is nothing to do.”

Nebraska ranks 7th in the country in underage drinking, I believe the responsibility for that unfortunate statistic does not fall solely on our kids. I believe WE as adults in Lincoln and Omaha are currently failing our youth.

I sit with kids every week who are first time law offenders and talk with them about the various reasons that they got in trouble, MIP’s, possession of marijuana, vandalism and theft are the major infractions that I see. I ask our kids the same question every week….why?

The response 9 times out of 10 is the same….”there is nothing to do”

So what is our role what is our responsibility?

I believe it is to create a space where our youth can go, to create a space where loitering IS allowed, create a space where being an individual IS encouraged, where skateboarding IS celebrated.

If you have a kid or work with kids you know how important it is to give them not only something they are passionate about but to put adults in their lives that believe in them. Skateboarding, art and music is our focus…these are not just hobbies for our kids. These activities represent their life style…it’s not what they do, it’s who they are.

Will you help me fight for our youth; they are after all…the future.
